Casino Makes a Safe Bet with Commercial Works

Commercial Works hit the lottery, really.

We were chosen to receive 2,100 video lottery terminals for the new casino opening this summer at Scioto Downs. The warehouse was busy this morning as trucks arrived with the first load. Each machine must be thoroughly inspected for visible damage and then recorded on a detailed receiving report.

A special, secured storage area was constructed with access given only to authorized personnel in order to insure the integrity of the machines. Commercial Works also built a bench testing area to calibrate and test the video lottery terminals.

All 2,100 terminals will be put through a rigorous process from the initial inspection and check-in through the handle out and site delivery. Commercial Works wants to make sure that each video lottery terminal will be ready for that first lucky winner!

Safety Award from OBWC

Commercial Works, one of the largest commercial relocation companies in the Midwest, recently received a safety award from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation for their efforts in preventing accidents and injuries in the workplace in 2011.

Commercial Works takes pride in the fact that they have never had an OSHA violation in the history of the Company. “Adhering to safety standards is a priority at Commercial Works”, said Human Resources Director, Michael Robinson. Michael sits on the OBWC Advisory Council that meets quarterly to discuss OBWC practices and policy.

Commercial Works mandates an active and ongoing training and safety program throughout all the Branches. In 2010, Commercial Works completed the construction of a 5,000 square foot in-house training facility. Within the facility, the company created real-life obstacles that are regularly encountered during relocation. At the site, there are six simulated work areas including an individual work station, conference room, server room and hallways. There is even a dock and truck for training on proper loading, unloading and securing of cargo.

The combination of safety training and daily awareness has had a dramatic effect on the company’s safety record and the bottom line, said company officials. Safety training is one way Commercial Works is effectively managing rising costs so that they can offer competitive rates to their clients.

Commercial Works was founded in 1973 with four men and two trucks. The Company has grown to over 360 associates with offices in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Louisville, Charlotte and Raleigh. Commercial Works has become a recognized leader in the planning, furnishing, moving and managing of commercial relocations throughout the country.
