Honored for Excellence

On August 2nd, at the annual awards ceremony, Columbus CEO magazine recognized Commercial Works as a leader in developing safety policies that result in a safer work place. Nominations were reviewed by members of an independent selection committee and the winners were chosen. Commercial Works was recognized in the category “Best Practices”.

HR Director Michael Robinson and his department successfully created a company-wide safety culture that made Commercial Works a safer work place for all employees. As a result of Mike’s ability to inspire change and execute successful safety strategies, Commercial Works was able to achieve a 35% decrease in the average number of work related injuries per year and obtain a significant savings on workers’ compensation premiums.

Mike’s emphasis on safety helped create the idea for a safety training center at Commercial Works. The construction of a 5,000 square foot in-house training facility includes six simulated work areas including an individual work station, conference room, server room and hallways. There is even a dock and truck for training on proper loading, unloading and securing of cargo.

But statistics don’t tell the whole story. The impact of the Training Center on morale has been very positive. Brian Porter, a 16-year veteran at Commercial Works said, “I like working for a company that helps me better myself. The Training Center really makes everyone’s job safer and teaches people about what to expect in the field.”
